General Science and Engineering Department

Dr. A. S. Patil
H. O. D. and Associate Professor

 It gives me immense pleasure to introduce Department of Basic Sciences and Humanities. The purpose of Basic Science subjects in engineering study is to lay down a strong foundation of basic principles of various disciplines of Engineering. I am proud to have a highly qualified and dedicated staff who are always striving to perceive and resolve student’s queries.

The department includes the laboratories of Engineering Physics, Engineering Chemistry and Language lab for Communication skills and tutorial room for Engineering Mathematics. The department looks after entire activities of FY BTech classes of all branches. The department has an excellent infrastructural facilities of laboratories and classrooms.

We follow a unique methodology called Engineering Teaching Learning Pedagogy (ETLP) to achieve conceptual clearance of every unit along with practical proficiency. Through this we make the teaching and learning more technically skilled, interesting, easy and result oriented. The department also takes care of weaker students by having remedial classes.

Apart from academic events, the department also encourages the students to engage in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, essential for development of organizational skills. Department staff members take personal care of students through Mentor-Mentee activity. For proper co-ordination between the parents, students and teachers, parents’ meets are also arranged.

====================Laboratories====================

Chemistry Lab:

The chemistry lab is well equipped with all apparatus and facilities as per the AICTE/DTE and University norms. Engineering Chemistry is mandatory subject for all branches of Engineering at undergraduate level.

The experiments on water analysis like hardness, Alkalinity, Chlorides, Dissolved Oxygen, Acidity, oil analysis like acid value, viscosity and Instrumental analysis using pH meter and conductmeter are conducted in this laboratory.

Lab Equipments:  Digital pH Meter with combined electrode, Digital conductometer, Digital electronic balance, Magnetic stirrer and Hot air oven.

Physics Lab:

Communication Skills Lab:

The physics lab is well equipped with all apparatus and facilities as per the AICTE/DTE and University norms. Engineering Physics is mandatory subject for all branches of Engineering at first year.

The experiments of light like Laser divergence optical fiber, polarimeter, Newton’s rings and also Hall Effect, G. M. Counter, Crystal Structure, band gap energy, PN-junction diode etc. are conducted during practical in this laboratory.

Lab Major Equipments: Hall Effect, G. M. Counter, Laser Source etc

Name of Lab Incharge:  Prof. S. K. Bhargande

The objective of the language lab is to make the students confident and better speakers. “ETNL Language Lab Software” is the software which is used to impart training to the students. The lab is well equipped with all the essential facilities like computer, headphones etc. which facilitate effective learning as the students grasp the topics with the help of audio visual and digital aids. In addition to this, activity based learning is promoted among students and they are encouraged to participate in various activities like role play, group discussion, debate, extempore, etc. The regular lab sessions help the students in the long run to bring out the necessary changes in their overall personality.
